Sassy Salvage's Linda

We are so happy to feature Sassy Salvage at Daisies and Olives.  The personalities behind this venture are Linda Ferguson Parrish from Farmington and Patti Porter Dutton from Greenland.
Linda joined us first; she has been a family friend for decades.  She’s a pretty and spirited little gal often referred to as our Ruby.  She’s frequently in the store – just one of us -  and always willing to help!  Linda loves decorating and has a flair for bling.  What she seems to enjoy most are her grandkids who accompany her once in a while.
Patti soon joined Linda.  She studied at the University of Arkansas (Interior Design).  She is artistic and also gifted when it comes to written expressions.  Patti is also a family-oriented person and tells us about her children often and sometimes brings in her sweet husband, Danny, to help out.
Linda and Patti became friends over 30 years ago when their husbands were playing softball on the same team.   The friendship has continued over the years and they have shared countless hours of family,  junking and decorating adventures.   These two totally different personalities complement each other so well.  They share their faith and have comforted each other during recent sad times when they have lost significantly close family members.

Sassy Salvage's Patti

Sassy Salvage was officially started in 2008. Their decorating philosophy includes such phrases as “good taste” and  “interesting interiors on a shoestring”.  We think we heard them mention the other day that “if it stands still long enough, we WILL paint it!”  In addition to the painted items, they specialize in diverse ac

cent pieces and accessories…and often cool clothing.  Once in a while they incorporate something that  is very “salvage” to put a real twist on their theme.  This newly renovated and gone “green” in vivid color booth is located in their “D&O home” in the old warehouse…northeast of the famous “pole”.  Ask for booth 33.  It’s very likely you’ll have the pleasure of meeting one of them.   This booth is not just sassy…it’s classy, too!  Visit and like them on their Facebook page!

Featured Vendor: Four Funky Friends

Merry Christmas from Four Funky Friends

Hang onto your hats because we are featuring our FOUR FUNKY FRIENDS!!!!  These sweet, smiling,  pretty and talented ladies come to us from West Fork.   Sheri Nay, Cindy McAdoo, Kelly Ferrell and Kandy Lichty have been friends since 1979.  They are a close-knit group and say they have been in each others’ weddings, present at the birth of the friends’ babies, attended their graduations, baptisms, celebrations, sporting events, enjoyed hiking and camping trips and all the other things (not excluding pillow fights) that make them “family.”   Cindy and Sheri were once sisters-in-law.  Kelly and Kandy are sisters so it follows that the 12 children of the four all consider themselves cousins.   We have met several of the cousins – YES, they’re beautiful/handsome, and there’s no doubt that, due to their maternal influences, they are funky, too!   These awesome girls and their families from West Fork exemplify the meaning of family & friendship.
Then, they got us involved in the picture….because they do some impressive FLEA MARKETING!!  We’re not sure if they became part of our D&O family or if they made us a part of theirs.   We asked Cindy what appealed to them about D&O and she said “It’s where we want to be…we feel good here; we are HOME and plan to be here 30 years from now. In our busy lives, it’s another opportunity for us to spend time together.”  It’s easy to know when more than one of the 444 is in the store.  We can hear them before we see them.  Their laughter rings throughout the buildings.  It’s not unusual to find them sitting on the floor, catching up on things and planning their next display.   A couple of them even look alike!  The other day, Cindy pointed out that Sister Mary – after all this time – still can’t tell the two of them (Cindy & Sheri) apart unless they come into the store together.   Fortunately, they answer to either name!  It doesn’t matter anyway – we are so impressed with all of them that we address them respectfully as “YOUR FUNKINESS!”
Sheri, Cindy & Kelly explained that they have always shopped for special things to challenge their creativity, have decorated and redecorated their houses and everybody else’s too, and finally decided to start a business.  The 4th friend?….ummmm, there’s just one clarification that is needed concerning her – it seems that Kandy has a condition called “lacking in funkiness,” and, by her own admission, there is no cure.  The primary three shake their heads and say about their fourth part “she just ain’t got it.”  Fortunately, Kandy is MORE than funky; she’s the honorary and advisory member of the Four Funky Friends and she fills that role very well.  There could be no such thing as Three Funky Friends; just wouldn’t fly!  It would be like trying to push an old rusted log chain up a steep hill.
We have learned that our 444 gals have a huge following of friends and customers; their merchandise is diverse – home decor, Razorback themes, vintage, primitive, antique, and modern; it’s all funky.   Enjoy these snapshots of examples of their cool stuff, but don’t be surprised if much of it is sold by the time you get here or inquire about it.  Don’t worry, tho – because they will soon replace it with equally delightful options for you.  We invite you to shop Booth 444 – at the South end of our new addition – from East to West!   Visit and like the FOUR FUNKY FRIENDS facebook page, too!

Thanks, Sheri, Cindy, Kelly & Kandy; (and we must not forget Bill, Sheri’s husband, who can fix just about anything).  We’re so glad you’re here!

Conflict resolution

JOAN AND BILL!  What a couple.  It is our pleasure to feature their booth…but even more delightful just to talk about them and the wonderful people they are.  Ms. Joan and Mr. Bill are what traditional flea marketing is all about.  They love yard sales, auctions, and all that goes with that package.  They display their wonderful finds for you in their booth at D&O – just for plain ole retirement happiness.  It’s always a pleasure to see them and hear about their latest adventures such as junkin’ and going dancing, especially on Friday nights!

Joan and Bill have lived in the Mountainburg area for 46 years and currently reside on the mountaintop down by Chester, AR.  Mr. Bill is retired from the military (Army) and also worked as a builder.  He loves gardening and brought us enough peppers and tomatoes to fill up all the freezers in Prairie Grove!  He has a great sense of humor and Ms. Joan often has to “correct” him in a very loving way with her large-size rolling pin.   Now, Ms. Joan is equally as amazing but in a different way.   Pretty Ms. Joan is multi-talented.  She does custom work on her embroidery machine, is a great cook (brings yummy stuff to work night), and is particularly known for her musical talents.  She plays the keyboard and often sings at the Friday night dances!  Her album, “I’m Walkin’ and I’m Talkin’” is for sale at D&O ($5.00)

The Bryans enjoy life and family (son and granddaughter) and want you to enjoy their booth full of old things at D&O.   They have great prices and a good turnover of merchandise.  Next time you’re in the store, be sure to browse Booth 147, Miss Joan and the Old Man – located in the West building…and don’t forget to check out the part they call “The Tunnel.”  You’re sure to find something very reminiscent of days gone by!

Featured Vendor: Junkin’ Queen

10 Oct

Judi is the Junkin' Queen

JUNKIN’ QUEEN coming your way!   We wondered how this all came about so we sort of “investigated” our Judi and here’s our report.  Judi went to school in Springdale and got her first crown: Miss SHS…so far so good!  Then she went to work in a law firm where they called her “the Queen.”  She became a court reporter…for 25 years – a noble undertaking while on her road to her “true” calling–junking, of course!   Judi married a wonderful man named Walter and they have raised a blended family of six children and now have 13 grandbabies.

Here’s what Judi has to say about it all:  ”God and my family are my top priorities.   What really got me interested in flea marketing was when I realized that it gave me an outlet to continue my junkin’ and antiquing obsession.  You see, I had already filled the house and the yard with wonderful stuff.  I LOVE decorating and I LOVE moving furniture – at least that’s Walter’s observation!  He never knows how the furniture will be arranged when he comes home.   Now, I’m not doing that so much…I am displaying it for sale in my booth.  My personal style is traditional home decor/furniture with some whimsy thrown in.  My goal is for my booth to appeal to different tastes, to be inviting and to be interesting.  I LOVE the atmosphere and the people at Daisies & Olives; I feel blessed to be involved here.”

So says Judi…but we add that we also feel blessed to have her as a part of our vendor family.  We always look forward to seeing her…and often her sidekick, Ashley!

Rub-a-dub-dub, two little girls in a tub

11 Sep

If you were fortunate enough to grow up along a beautiful creek in these Ozark Mountains and if you had no neighbors close by – and no indoor plumbing, then imagination and resourcefulness served you well.  When Spring/Summer rains came and the creek was “flooded”,  the two little girls took an oblong wash tub (the same one used for bathing – in the kitchen – by the warm wood stove during the winter) and went on float trips!  In spite of the fact that oblong tubs weren’t designed for this use, it was a fine canoe.   With this fond remembrance, we have made a light fixture out of the oblong wash tub.  It hangs – waiting to be embellished with a few grapevines and an assortment of twigs –  in the new addition at D&O.  We love it!

Featured Vendor: Dumpster Divas

14 Aug

Dumpster Divas Lonnia and Cindy have been friends for 40 years!

As promised, here they are – LONNIA AND CINDY!  The girls on the south side of “The Pole” in the Old Warehouse.  Dumpster Divas may be a little misleading as these girls are no prima donnas.  They are down to earth, junk-loving, dumpster-diving, and artistic/creative good ole gals.  We have learned that Cindy and Lonnia became friends 40 years ago.   Sometimes it hard to keep track of them because they’re off to some exotic place on the beach with their families, always supporting and calling the Hogs, enjoying their careers, AND running their own little store right here at D&O.  Cindy told us that she and Lonnia are celebrating the big 50 this year.  We’re thinking there could be a party!  Besides admiring their flea-marketing talents, we look forward to seeing these girls because every time they come into the store they have a BIG heart-warming smile.  It’s always an added bonus when Lonnia brings that cute little hunk of a grandson or when Cindy brings her helpful husband, Randall.  Visit this successful Booth 89, DUMPSTER DIVAS soon.  Look for their little dump truck sign (designed and painted by Lonnia).  And,expect to find something awesome at a price you’re gonna like.

Featured Vendor: Barbara of the North Pole

The amazing Barbara in her element

Meet the first of two featured vendors this month. When one is at D&O and leaves the east building to enter the old warehouse – straight away is a large support beam that, for all we know, could be supporting the entire town of Prairie Grove. Located at that very spot are The Girls on the Pole! Small Booths; Big Success!

At the risk of sounding like we’re presenting a boxing match…our first featured vendor…on the North Pole is BARBARA!!! We are real happy to tell you about Barbara. Her success has left us reeling with pride! She can strategically place more things into a small booth than one could ever imagine – then step back and survey the perfection. It’s like a peek into Country LivingAt Home in Arkansas, or CITISCAPES magazine. Then in a couple of days we are calling to tell her “What a mess! We have sold most of it.” That’s good. Because it brings our Barb right back with more and when she shows up, she often brings goodies for from her kitchen us to eat and tells us what is going on in the big city. She has a wonderful family and a very nice landscape artist husband named Cooper.

Unlike Barbara, the identity of her booth is just “plain,” #80! Next time you’re at the store, be sure to visit this successful little space at the north pole – where the merchandise is HOT. If you’re lucky, you might get a chance to meet and talk to her, too. If so – be prepared to stay a while! Because Barb likes to talk and when you leave, you’ll love her and feel as if you have known her your entire life. Besides that, you’re going to find something in plain-name booth #80 that you just can’t live without.

Stay tuned for the second in our series of Girls on the Pole, when we introduce you to the Dumpster Divas of the South Pole!

Featured Vendor: Mama’s Little Nest

3 Jul

Julie, the curator of Mama's Little Nest, brings you sweet discoveries with a timeless appeal

Daisies & Olives is proud to feature Mama’s Little Nest. Here’s how Julie describes her creation:

Mama’s Little Nest is a vintage, cottage inspired booth with items ranging from little trinkets to furniture pieces. We offer home decor that is affordable, unique, and handmade. My name is Julie, and I am a stay at home mom. I have always enjoyed making things and my friends often call me “crafty.” MLN has been a great creative outlet since my “little chicks” are all in school. I love being a part of the Daises & Olives family. Every time I walk in the store, I feel like I am home. I love to know that items in Mama’s Little Nest can bless your nest!

Julie has been with us for a long time and just expanded her space to create an even bigger nest. If you aren’t already one of her regular customers, you will find her sweet little home inside D&O – in the east building, just down the ramp and on the right.

Or, just ask one of our friendly faces to direct you to MLN, booth 27.

Featured Vendor: Emma’s Back Porch

There's no question that Paula provides fun and funky finds

Summer is all about fun and memories, and this month’s featured vendor fits all the joys of summer into her booth.  Emma’s Back Porch is wistful, playful, and full of great vintage finds.  The mastermind of Emma’s Back Porch is Paula, who named the booth in honor of her mother.  Paula has recently enlarged and renovated her display area at D&O and we were…well, impressed.  We’re used to seeing her unique array of merchandise come in one day and be purchased and go away the next so we were happy that she added some vintage sheet music and magazine page “wallpaper” providing interesting reading for all of us while she restocks.  Paula has an eye for picking great “stuff” and she’s an equally talented display artist.  She provides customers with things ranging from practical to collectible to trendy.  Lots of conversation starters here: from a vintage set of Tiddlywinks to a wry sock monkey.  There’s a softer side, too, with pretty florals in soothing pastels.  If your style is shabby chic, or fun and funky vintage, you will find something perfect in this booth.  Emma’s Back Porch is a customer pleaser and the prices will keep you coming back for more!  If you’re not already one of Paula’s regular customers, then pay her a visit.  Ask for booth 4321 – in the West building.
